As an NYC wedding photographer who loves capturing authentic moments across all five boroughs, I was thrilled when Allexi and John asked me to photograph their engagement session in Astoria. This charming Queens neighborhood holds a special place in their relationship. It made the perfect backdrop for their pre-wedding photos.
A Cozy Beginning at Queens Room
We began our session at Queens Room, a stylish bistro on Ditmars Boulevard that combines vintage charm with modern elegance. The navy walls adorned with gold-framed mirrors created a sophisticated atmosphere that perfectly complemented the couple’s classic style.
Allexi wore a beautiful cream-colored dress while John opted for a crisp blue checkered shirt. Their outfits beautifully harmonized with the venue’s aesthetic. As an NYC wedding photographer, I’m always drawn to locations that reflect a couple’s story. Queens Room provided the perfect intimate setting for the first chapter of their session.
Intimate Moments Captured
There’s something magical about photographing couples in places that hold meaning to them. With cocktails in hand, Allexi and John shared whispered conversations and tender glances across the marble tabletop. These quiet, candid moments often reveal the most authentic aspects of a relationship.
The soft, natural light streaming through the venue’s windows created a dreamy atmosphere. It highlighted the genuine connection between them. When photographing engagements, I focus on creating a relaxed environment where couples can be themselves. This results in images that truly capture their unique bond.
Exploring Astoria’s Character
After our time at Queens Room, we stepped outside to capture the neighborhood’s distinctive charm. The iconic Queens Room storefront with its classic signage provided a perfect urban backdrop. These were some of my favorite shots of the day. As a photographer who specializes in NYC elopement photography and engagement sessions, I love incorporating architectural elements that showcase New York’s diverse neighborhoods.
Allexi and John looked completely at ease as they strolled hand-in-hand along Ditmars Boulevard. Then we headed to nearby Astoria Park. They’ve spent countless afternoons there throughout their relationship. The park’s scenic views of the city skyline created a stunning contrast to our intimate indoor portraits.
Why Engagement Sessions Matter
Engagement sessions are more than just beautiful photographs – they’re an opportunity to get comfortable in front of the camera before your wedding day. As both an NYC wedding photographer and storyteller, I find these sessions invaluable. They build rapport with couples and help me understand their unique dynamic.
For Allexi and John, their engagement session at Queens Room captured not just their love for each other, but also their connection to the neighborhood they’ve made their home. These moments – sipping cocktails in their favorite local spot, walking the familiar streets, and visiting the park where they’ve created so many memories – tell a story that’s uniquely theirs.
Looking Forward to Their Wedding Day
Working with Allexi and John was truly a highlight for me as an NYC wedding photographer. Their easy laughter, natural affection, and genuine warmth made capturing their connection effortless. I’m already looking forward to documenting their wedding day with the same attention to detail and authentic storytelling.
